When starting and running a business, people tend to focus on all the 'logical' issues that need addressing like sales and marketing, hiring people, your business plan, systems, and so on. They forget they need the right mindset for success ...

These are all very important to being successful in business, and the ActionCOACH coaching process absolutely addresses all these fundamentals and more.
However, the one thing that many people overlook - that is often critical to success - is the right mindset, and investing sufficiently in their own personal development and growth.
I've written in the past about Be x Do = Have, and it's so easy in the busyness of day-to-day life to fall into the trap of simply 'doing'. But addressing the 'Be' (who you are becoming') is where personal development comes in and where you need to focus a decent percentage of your time each week.
Personal development and growth should be an ongoing strategy, so what things can you do to develop yourself and the right 'success' mindset? Here are just a few ideas:
Read on a daily basis: remember the power of the compound effect ... small daily actions add up so even if you just have time for half an hour each day, think what you could learn throughout a year! Read motivational quotes and other people's success stories. There is always something to learn from other people who have achieved success.
Clarity of purpose: revisit your vision and goals on a daily basis. Clarity brings focus, and when things threaten to throw you off track, that's when you need to be especially clear on your destination. What is your 'why'? Where do you want your business and life to be in 5 years time? When your vision is clear, it makes it easier to break down your goals into achievable action steps.
"If you don't know where you are going, any road can take you there" - Lewis Carroll
Build relationships that promote and support growth: according to Jim Rohn, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Research has shown that the people you are surrounded by affect your way of thinking, the decisions you make and your self-esteem. Spend time with positive people who support and encourage your goals.
Self belief: Those who achieve success have a strong sense of self-belief and develop a clear understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses. They will focus on developing their strengths and where possible surround themselves with people that can support them in the areas they are less skilled at.
"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right" - Henry Ford
Don't be afraid of making mistakes: There has been a lot of research over the last decade on the idea of a 'growth' versus 'fixed' mindset. People with a 'growth' mindset recognise that making mistakes offer an opportunity for learn and grow and the most successful people are often those who have failed the most, but don't give up!
A lot of the things I have written about today relate to the 'law of attraction', something physicists have long known about and what I will be writing about next week! Check in to the blog next time to find out more about that.
